Samsung’s super-sized Galaxy Note changed my life

Samsung’s super-sized Galaxy Note changed my life

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at my puny iPhone 4 with disgust, wishing with all my might that it were bigger. It’s too portable, too pint-sized, and those qualities have no place in a society that values 6,000-lb SUVs and 2,000-calorie meals over hatchbacks and sensible portions. I’m tired of misplacing a dainty device that was designed with the average hand in mind, and I’m sick of having a smartphone that’s not interested in being anything else.

You can imagine my delight, then, when Samsung took the wraps off its gigantic Galaxy Note, a device the company promises will blur the line between smartphones and tablets. I had to have it, had to see what I’ve been missing with my laughably small, all-too-practical iPhone. Weeks later, I did, and there’s no going back.

The Galaxy Note’s tagline asks if the device is a tablet or a smartphone, but like a girl in Spanx, it’s so much more.

headline1 Samsungs super sized Galaxy Note changed my life

With my wife spotting me, I hoisted the Galaxy Note from its crate, fired it up, and salivated. Never before has 5.3 inches been so excessive, I thought. Glorious.

comparehand Samsungs super sized Galaxy Note changed my life

Next to the Galaxy Note, my iPhone looked like a useless toy, like a plastic, bubble-spitting lawnmower beside its real-life counterpart. It was then that I realized my life would never be the same. I’d found an Everlasting Gobstopper – this behemoth would satisfy my every appetite.

LCD or Plasma? That was my dilemma before the multi-talented Galaxy Note came into my life and spared me the expense. I hung the Samsung in my entertainment center and never looked back. Surely this is what James Cameron had in mind when he reimagined Fern Gully.

But the downsizing didn’t stop there. My iPad was next to go. Why have two touchscreens I can’t possibly fit in my pants? I figured. The Galaxy Note scratched that itch, too.

Who needs a gym membership? With the help of some packing tape, the Galaxy Note attached to my wife’s arm and killed two birds with one 5-inch stone: It pumped out tunes on the go, and it gave her an upper-body workout that a set of free weights would struggle to match. It also saved me a trip to the local court.

Afraid of the dark? Not with a Galaxy Note by your side. Samsung’s full-figured phone filled in for my nightstand lamp and ensured the sun never set in my apartment. And I could swear I’m slightly tanner.

An iPhone, we can all agree, is a shitty librarian. It’s too small and soft-spoken to be taken seriously. The Galaxy Note, on the other hand, demands attention like a fat kid on a diving board. It had no trouble keeping my books in order.

After just days with a Galaxy Note, my forearms have never been so toned, and my apartment’s never been so bare. Is it a tablet? Is it a phone? It’s everything. Next up: surfing. Literally.

Really some are amusing for us Note owners, but it is still mainly a one-trick pony.

        • http://www.techhog.com/ Michael T. Blake

The fact that you own this device does not negate the fact that it looks ridiculous. What I find amusing is how some Android fanboys mock and literally laughed at Dell for making the Streak 5, with almost everyone calling the device “too big” and “a joke” but, if Samsung makes it (even 0.3-inches bigger) it’s okay. I’m not talking about software, design esthetics or any of that, I’m talking just about the device’s size.

This phone, while having a great display, fast processor and a slim design, still has the same effect that the Nokia N-Gage had…it looks absolutely ridiculous next to your head, you know, because it is a phone. You might as well put up a legal pad to your face. You can be proud that surfing the net, watching movies on it, is like no other device, just don’t complain when people laugh at you while you’re talking on it. You signed yourself up.

As for me, I’ll stick to my iPhone 4S and Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch (Sprint) for my primary devices, thanks.

          • PatanjaliS

Have you actually USED the Note, or are you just making projections based upon what?

Having used the Note often in public, including once for an hour phone call at a local food court, NOBODY looked. After all it is only 23% larger than an SG2.

It is easy to hold against the head with open fingers, and I find that a lot less stressful than trying to hold a 4s tightly with fingertips for fear of dropping it.

Now the Galaxy Tab 7in is a phone and it does look dorky and buly against the head, but the Note is a lot more compact.

I am not an fanboy of Android, and was not really impressed with the Tab, but the Note I like because it has the right balance of features FOR ME. I do not buy a device because of the OS. The large, hi-res screen and the Wacom stylus are what attracted me to the Note, as they allow the use cases cited when it was initially announced last year, and it does them as I expected.

But if you want laughter, here’s laughing at you, kid!

          • Groovieknave

You obviously don’t know how ridiculous you are. How can you know what ridiculous is? You’re making it out the be an even bigger deal than it actually is. By the way, who cares what people laugh at anyway? Interesting to know you’re more concerned with image than utility. Some of us like the idea and own it… you don’t have to whine so pretentiously about it, and you don’t have to own it either. Whew! Now you can take a breath and relax, and go back to your favorite phones.

Time will tell if this big thing catches on. The iOS/Apple vs. Android ecosystem is another factor. It is not “size” alone. I do like the compactness of my iPhone, have to day. Would love to test out the Galaxy Note to see if I would like it.

You’re wrong, Gbbctr–size is EVERYTHING! (See what I did there?) Once you try Note, you’ll never go back! I can hardly wait ’til they bring out the 6.59″ version… I’m getting even larger patch pockets installed now in eager anticipation!

        • m3kw

why have this ;) at the end of the sentence? You are cruel.

      • iPhart

Speaktoit beats Siri all the way. And it’s free. Now is coming on iOS (for 2$) and you can check it out .

        • m3kw

Can you start speaking just by holding the home button? Didn’t think so.

          • Iucidium

            You hold the search button.

            • estates

Stop talking out of your asz. Only Siri is allowed to use the “hold search button” to activate voice commands.

            • PatanjaliS

So are you saying that if Siri doesn’t keep up with other Q&A voice robots, iOS device owners will be forced to lag behind or put up with an extra touch?

Or maybe search democratisation will be forced upon them and have it be made configurable.

      • Eldakdoky

        SIRI is such a gimmick.

        • Guest

          Obviously envious.

        • His Shadow

Yeah, the future of human/machine interaction is just a gimmick.

          • PatanjaliS

If you think that holding inanely simple Q&As with your phone somehow replaces the type of information exchange density capable using a keyboard and mouse, you are delusional.

Try editing an article with voice. It is difficult enough using a finger.

And try concentrating when everyone around you is asking questions into their device. Talk about noise pollution. It is enough just listening to people who do not have the sense to keep their personal conversations private without having workplaces filled with people frustratingly trying to edit documents or spreadsheets at work.

It is a gimmick because it only really works for a very narrow range of use cases. Outside those it just becomes unweildy.

            • His Shadow

“information exchange density capable using a keyboard and mouse, you are delusional.”

Good point. Lets go thru a few others…

“640K ought to be enough for anybody”

‘I think there is a world market for about five computers’

“The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a ‘mouse’. There is no evidence that people want to use these things.”

That’s right. I mocking your short sighted pedantic arrogance. Good catch. But it’s okay. Playing the insular arrogant ass unaware of progress is a valuable niche in tech forums. So carry on carrying on…

            • PatanjaliS

You still haven’t indicated how voice deals with the use cases one typically finds in business, like editing documents and spreadsheets, which it has to to be able to do to be a viable universal interaction method.

Voice does not deal with visual interaction well and any AI has to try to try to quickly and accurately get visual context, and that is not there yet. Voice at this stage needs a connection to substantial server farms just to do a single Q&A, and that is just the words. Adding in encoded visual context and the computing power required to analyse the voice-visual permutations starts to blow right out.

People have been doing voice research for decades and yet we can still only handle a single Q&A at a time, let alone a ‘conversation’ that really drills down with anywhere near the detail required for anything but very simple tasks.

Voice sounds like it has a lot of promise, but it will be difficult to do en masse as it can be distracting to those around, especially in work situations where ‘open office planning’ make it difficult enough when only a few are talking.

Voice is one of many possible ways of interacting with a computer, but LIKE ALL OF THEM, it has a limited number of optimum scenarios, and plenty where it is a bitch.

As for those predictions you cite, they were expressed by people who had vested interests in not pushing the envelope, especially when others were trying to force their hands. I would like there to be a better way to interact than with a keyboard, but after a hundred years we are still stuck with a keyboard layout that was desinged to slow people down so the mechanisms of the day could keep up.

We have new keyboard methods like Swype, but while they are relatively fast, they do not match physical keys for raw speed.

Editing is just plain awkward by touch, especially when ‘aided’ by spelling helpers that really get in the way. With voice, as it is, it needs to be told the location and scope of what to work with, and touch is a lot faster at that, but it suffers accuracy problems when a lot of information is presented, requiring a higher density than fingers are made for. Then a stylus is useful because of the finer resolution, but it can be tiring if doing a lot. Keyboards allow a lot of ‘micro-rests’.

I am a technical writer and yet after 18 years I still cannot touch type, but then I don’t do that much bulk typing, but a great amount of cut, paste and edit. With the amount of that I do, if I used voice to try and do it, anybody near me would be trying to kill me, if I hadn’t already put a pen through the computer in frustration.

And speaking of predictions, one of the recurring themes throughout science fiction is the use of flying cars as mass transport, and yet we are just as far off from that as when originally posited. Why is that? Well, it may be just a case of people are not really capable of managing 3D interactions. What we call 3D in films is basically happening in 2D plus a little in height, mainly because our eyes are like that. But that is a huge way away from dealing with large chunks of metal flying around in all directions driven by people who get just as distracted as us. True 3D just does not fly with us yet because we cannot handle the interactions required phsysically (not without substantial help from ultra-’smart’ computers and people trained in communication), let alone psychologically (too short a concentration span).

Complicated voice control would require a level of sophistication and training on peoples’ part that it is not likely to fly except for a very few. Just look at emails and posts on forums and blogs, where in their initial stages the users did express themselves well because they were mainly people trained to communicate, but now a lot of people seem to think that just dumping a ‘stream of consciousness’ (where it is often difficult to understand the subject and context) is communication, when it more just selfish space hogging. If the great mass of people are not willing to learn how to accurately communicate, then the harder it is for any computer program designers to decipher the context and thus give meaningful results.

Voice is a highly encoded communication form. We uses words that have a lot of meaning individually and when placed in particular permutations (grammar), they can convey a lot of information in a very few words. However, they rely upon the parties involved in the communication having the same definitions of the words for accurate communication. Just the interactions on sites like this shows that we are far from having the same ‘realities’, so programmers trying to cater for such a variety of realities are facing an uphill battle.

Siri et al basically deal with a few simple ‘facts’ derived from the phone (location, contact names, etc) and try to relate them to a particular stored set of other ‘facts’ (POIs, business names and locations, weather stats, etc) held on their servers, using some keywords that they can identify from what you say. If they cannot detect enough keywords to identify which facts to work with, the results are incomplete, or worse, off the mark. Again, if you train yourself in how the program works, then the results are better. However, most do not want to train themselves, but want our ‘toys’ to be smart enough to know whet we mean, even though we seem incapable of expressing it accurately.

To be really useful, voice interaction has to be capable of ‘deep’ conversation, where a conversation thread can refer easily to elements of itself and past threads. With knowing different people, we can easily refer back to past threads without too much context exposition, but when dealing with a lot of threads, like when dealing with a personal voice assistant, we need to be able to express the context with more detail, again requiring a discipline that most don’t tend to want to do.

Voice is a viable member of our present, let alone future, means of human-computer interaction, but you said THE future, and that I think is NOT likely at all.

            • His Shadow

Did you really just type all that to point out that the future of voice interaction isn’t here yet, nor fully mapped out?

              Thanks, I guess.

            • lkm32

I’ll sum up what he was saying:

We as a race moved from a oral society to one of writing. Writing allows organization that languages simply do not, and cannot have. Siri is nice for setting up an appointment without having to go into the app, but is it the “future of human/machine interaction”? The simple answer is no … unless Apple “innovates” us a new language to speak.

To comment on whether it is a gimmick, in itself no as it does provide a human touch to existing voice command software (remember, Apple acquired siri because they had programmed the Q&A aspect, the underlying voice commands were simple). However, it is gimmicky when someone like you touts it as being “the future”.

Trust me, gorilla glass is more of “the future” than siri ever will be.

            • His Shadow

              Trust me

The only thing I trust is that the future will be leaving you behind just like every other windbag who insisted we had reached some kind of pinnacle or conversely, a roadblock that makes further developments, unnecessary, unlikely, or even impossible. Prior to Siri, making an appointment purely with a voice command was a virtual impossibility. Now it’s apparently no big deal? Go ahead and lay the groundwork for future dolts who, once Siri capabilities become de rigeur across mobile platforms, will downplay or even deny that Apple did bring us one step further to the future.

Excellent article! I have owned my Galaxy Note for a couple of months now and I am totally smitten! My friends (even those with iphones) are incredibly envious. I have had many many smartphones over the years (including those made by apple) and without doubt this is the best I ever owned.

        • Mansized

iPhone is a girl’s phone plain and simple. Samsung make phones for man sized hands. Ever try playing a fps on an iPhone’s screen – joke, keep hitting the wrong buttons, that’s because it’s designed for a girl’s hand size. Man up, fruit phone lovers.

          • PatanjaliS

iPhone was designed for the smallest-handed in their target demographic. That implies that there are a great number that can easily use a larger phone single-handed, or an even larger number that don’t do numbers/text entry single-handed. It also means that many of those with larger hands may find the iPhone too small to use easily.

The iPhone is a size compromise that Apple chose for their own economic reasons, not for the perfect usage by all human beings.

Thank God, other manufacturers decided not to ignore them.

And this land shall be so called, “Galaxy Note.” Let it stand for the test of time of 6 months or fewer.

      • PatanjaliS

They probably didn’t do that because it doesn’t look oversized doing that. It is only 23% larger than an SG2.

    • TheNoteSucks

I love all the comments from owners of this “amazing” device that think the author was serious about how awesome the Note is…lmao. Great article!

      • Sean McKibbon

As a reporter this is just about the right size to replace a paper notebook. If you want to take notes you need something bigger than an iphone and smaller than an ipad. now if the stylus manufacturers would just make their stupid styluses pen size.

        • PatanjaliS

Samsung sells a shell the converts the stylus into a normal pen size. It includes a spare stylus, but the price is a bit steep. Depend upon how much you use the stylus and are willing to carry around a ‘pen’ separately.

      • PatanjaliS

Perhaps we can just laugh at the article for what it is.

After all, we use the device and know that it is not all that large and is fairly light, like only 40g or 28% heavier than an iPhone.

It seems that it is you that has the need to point score.

Cute, I suppose. But hardly worth reading. I suppose that is why I don’t care for the “perfect” iphone. I can’t READ it, it is too small. But, for those of you who are still too young to think about life, I suppose that reading it is secondary.

      • Utsava

You do know there are accessibility settings that can adjust the size of text right?

        • Sick Head

Does it make the screen bigger?

        • olbp

Of course, and when big enough to read you can’t see the rest of the text. Net loss. I’ll take big text on a big screen any day. Nice try, though.

    • blairh

Some funny pics but the truth remains that the iPhone screen is too small at 3.5″. I think a 4″ retina display would be perfect. If the next iPhone doesn’t have a larger screen I will seriously considering jumping ship for the first time since 2008.

      • Surly Driver

Might as well get a jump start on those serious considerations now, then.

    • Sven Enterlein

This is very entertaining no matter how many aspects might me realistic. People have to finally get over the idea that one phone fits all and accept the freedom of choice.

      • PatanjaliS

Just because Apple decided upon a size does not mean it is optimal for all smartphone users. It just indicates that they wanted to pick the largest size that the smallest-handed of their target demographic could used single-handed, just so they would only have to make one device.

        That has two consequences:
        1) There is a substantial number of people that could use a larger screen single-handed.

        2) The screen size can be a lot larger for those that do not use their phone for number/text entry single handed. That opens up to using plenty of other criteria to decide upon what size is best.

Product design specs are always a compromise for a large part of the target demographic.

Some people seem to have a problem accepting that many want something more suitably sized for their purposes.

    • solmssen

You just come off condescending and insular in this. Just because you don’t need what it offers doesn’t mean there aren’t people with a different set of needs and different points of compromise. Not everybody keeps a phone in their pocket, or can resolve text at the size it’s displayed on a 3.5″ screen. People come in all shapes and sizes, and so do the many Android, WP7 and Blackberry phones to match their diverse needs. Only Apple insists on one size fits all. I own an iPhone 4S, a Blackberry 9930, and a Galaxy Nexus, and I use all three, respect their strengths and understand their weaknesses – but when I leave the house with one phone, it’s the G-Nex.

      • http://www.facebook.com/lucyparanormal Daniel Tiberius

        Well said.

        • solmssen

          thanks, Daniel!

      • PatanjaliS

3.5in is what Apple deemed the SMALLEST-handed of their target demographic would need to use it single-handed. That means the MAJORITY can actually use a bigger screen, and to those who don’t use their phone single-handed, size isn’t such an issue.

    • spuy767

I do admire that reviewers have the gall to mention that the battery performs better when on LTE than other 4G phone. Of course it does, it’s 30% larger physically.

      • Jack

Are you mentally challenged? Yes the battery is larger, but so is the screen, the biggest consumer of battery life on a phone. So the fact that this phone has the best battery life than any other 4G phone is a legit plus.

One oversight, you need a picture of using it as a phone, that alone is an argument against the device’s existence.

      • PatanjaliS

Perhaps he didn’t because it doesn’t really standout. It is only 23% larger than an SG2.

I used it for an hour phone call at a local food court and not one person near me made any indication at all that I had an unusual phone.

The size only appear large when first seeing it face on, but I got used to it very quickly.

        • CubBump

I’ve used a Streak for over a year and got the Note on Sunday. I’ve never had anyone laugh at me, but I’ve had plenty of people ask me where they could get the Streak, and when eating at Chilis immediately after picking up my Note I had 5 different people ask what phone it was, comment on how great it looked, and ask where to get it. The local Bestbuys sold out on Sunday. Obviously there is a demand which the Apple fanboys do not understand.

          • PatanjaliS

The iPhones were designed for the SMALLEST-handed of their target demographic to use single-handed. For those with larger hands (like the majority!) or those do not use their phone single-handed, that opens up a lot of possibilities.

    • Rip Ragged

I have a question. Is there an accessory ecosystem yet? I need an accessory that will let the Note work my quads and glutes as well as just upper arms. The Note is more practical for women who carry purses. They could have a BT headset and phone inside their bag/purse at all times. But perhaps it is a bit large for a smaller woman’s hands. The iPhone is just too small for men who are in the 6ft range. Almost toy like once you use a bigger phone like the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus..

hey, I live in Paris, and I take the subway every morning, and I have spoted quite a number of people using the note. it seems big at first because people are not used to it, but it does fit in a vest pocket and the big screen is really comfy. so the author of this post can make fun of it, but this phone/tablet has a market. also, the note is not as heavy as you assume compared to any other devices. I don’t have a Note but I can understand there are people which will choose this over an iphone or an ipad.

    • Baz2point0

Funny article for sure… as for the comments though…. I’ve got a feeling plenty of the folks mocking the Note have never seen one in person, let alone used one. I’ve had mine for nearly a month now. It fits absolutely fine in all but my tightest jeans (including leather case). It’s pretty tricky to use single handed, but that’s massively compensated for by the absolute delight that is the internet on the Note, not to mention videos, photos, comics etc. My Note feels more like “the future” than any gadget I’ve had for some time (and I’ve had quite a few gadgets}. I very much doubt I’ll ever go sub 4.5 inch again – most likely the Galaxy Note 2 will be my next phone. Mock all you like, once you go Note, you don’t go back.

The really funny thing is, I absolutely guarentee that if Apple were to announce a 5 inch iphone+ / iphoneMaxx / whatever tomorrow, half the apple fans on here would be calling it the best thing ever and queing outside the apple store to get one.

I totally recognise that the iphone is excellent. If you consider the mobile internet a primary feature of your handset, and can stomach a bigger bit of pocket furniture, the Note is better.

      • http://www.facebook.com/Dawoogman Brian Christopher Tompkins

I would be one of the few fanboys not to upgrade to a 5 inch iphone and actually keep the one I got till it crapped out or find something else. I would’t mind Apple going to 4-4.3 inch, maybe 4.5 inches Max, but I can live with 3.5 inches not 5inches. To each their own tho.

        • Baz2point0

You’ve hit the nail on the head – to each their own – it’s just frustrating when fanboys mock a device – android or iphone – just because it’s not their idea of the right phone, even if it’s an otherwise excellent piece of kit. The problem is that a less informed consumer might form opinions based on that kind of rubbish, and miss out on what might be a better device for them.

As for a 4.3 or 4.5 inch iphone, I think if Apple did one it would be a huge success – in fact I’m sure it would outsell the 3.5 before long. Will they though? I doubt it. It’s stubbonness that made Apple great, but it may be that same stubbonness that destroys them. Apple right now remind me of mid-90s Nintendo – at the top of their field, drowning in profits, determined to do things the Nintendo way – 15 years later and the Nintendo way isn’t what everyone wants anymore. If Apple aren’t careful, they could easily go the same way.

          • http://www.facebook.com/Dawoogman Brian Christopher Tompkins

excellent point, everything that goes up must come down eventually. The rules will apply to Apple eventually.

      • Megbnb

Apple’s strategy on screen size, err keeping developers happy, will be a true catalyst for consumers to at least consider how all those alphabetical desserts taste. Recent rumor trends say the 5 will most likely utilize a 4 inch screen. LITERALLY: too little, maybe a little too late. I did a hands on at Best Buy this evening, my first interaction with the fruits of Mountain View. The Note is stunning, talk about a conversation starter. I didn’t want to put it down.

    • http://twitter.com/jon360 Jon O.

People! forget this fight. No phone is perfect.

I’ve heard, read and seen AT&T, Verizon, Sprint downgrade your data transfer speeds only after 5GBs or even 2GBs in some cases?????????
What do you guys do after that? Use your iPhones, Notes & other Androids, (oh, Blackberrys too) as paperweights???? :D :D :D : :D
How ridiculous is that? Websites are getting bigger & heavier, data transfer speeds are getting faster but the data usage limits are getting smaller. They say watch HD videos on your mobiles on the go, anytime, anywhere. Download songs, download games, browse zillions of websites, listen to online radio and every damn thing and if you really wanna do that, it will exceed your monthly limit in a week, so keep track of all your usage. This topic is not irrelevant because no matter how brilliant your iPhone must be, it’s completely a piece of junk without internet.

And yes, I love my iPhone. It’s the best phone in the world (including mars, venus and umm….pluto) I love it when it becomes a piece of shit when you accidentally drop it (happened twice with me) is it the best feature of iPhone? I love it when its edgy design hurts my ear while talking. I love it when you spend the whole night trying to search a particular song trying to impress your girlfriend (especially when you have 5000 songs in it) In the end, she thinks you’re a nerd. And I, absolutely become emotional, when my iPhone brilliantly fails to handle those flash based websites (especially when your girlfriend’s phone can) I thought she’s a typical girl when she bought an Android phone. I love my iPhone when your photos, websites, PDFs look much better on Galaxy S2 or similar phones. I love my iPhone when I can’t change a song with just a push of a button, without even activating the touchscreen like Blackberrys.

Its not a perfect phone guys. Grow up. I love iPhone but Android is equally good. And if anyone doesn’t agree, it’s just because they’re jealous of a phone that’s really a worthy competitor of their iPhones. There’s a psychology behind it.

I don’t hate iPhone, in fact I love it. But, I hate it when someone loves to hate other phones just for the sake of it. Monumentally pretentious!!!
if you have a good phone, just love it, enjoy it, use it. Why do you have to hate other phones? or Why do you have all the time in the world for doing this much of a hard work only to prove your senseless point. Samsung Galaxy S2 has surpassed the global smartphone sells, even though it’s banned in some countries. WHY??

What a delightful review! Thank you so much. You made up for all the negative digs from reviewers, and I use the term loosely, who fussed that it was too big for their pockets, a stylus was a blast from the past that should stay there, phooey. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the genius that would give me a super size screen for my older eyes, a mini computer that would be easy to carry and still let me call AAA if I got a flat. I’m thrilled, FED EX brought me my Galaxy Note Friday morning and I’m in heaven! Thanks for letting me know I wasn’t the only one in the universe who thinks the Galaxy Note is one fabulous phone.

I like the Note, it’s right between the iphone and the ipad, it’s the perfect in between size. The iphone is to small and the ipad is too big. Note is jussssst right!

It looks exactly like the Palm Pilot I bought 10 years ago. It came with a stylus too. It had a Hard Drive and lots of Apps.
The stylus is what makes it old school. I can’t tell you how many times I lost my stylus. The good old days.

I know this was a bit tongue and cheek (at least I hope so) but the phone is so freakin huge. PLUS a “pen”? I know it has magical properties but a pen? Next!

Kind of condescending but funny article nonetheless. That being said, I love my Note and basically do most of my web surfing off the thing. However, the fanboyism from both sides is pretty pathetic.

love the article but I own one and think they are highly over rated. The only good thing about them is the good screen size and they are fast and the S Pen is cool. My previous phone was a HTC Incredible S so naturally I thought I was upgrading, wrong. HTC’s are alot more sturdier (Note has a flimsy almost paper thin back) there is no improvement in the camera and the HTC is a lot more configurable and user friendly and that’s a two year old phone. Alot of apps don’t run comfortably on the Note because of it’s size, you can’t have individual pics for each contact, nor even individual ringtones. If you don’t need the big screen don’t bother, get the HTC One X

The truth is, the Note is great device. I can finally send a text without fat-fingering the keyboard. People have commented on other sites that when they use their’s people stop them to ask what they had. I don’t get this at all, probably because I am 6’5″ and have pretty large hands. I agree that the Note may be too large for many people; but it is perfect for me.

    • Jamie4418

It’s obvious that bigger is the trend. This devices (and all future copycat devices) will do the job of phone and tablet.

No. I’m a man. I am a soldier with a Bachelor’s from West Point, and a Phd from Boston University. I play football. I can do polite. I can be clever. So when I say there’s nothing bad about a male cheerleader, you just take that either that makes you feel good about yourself.
You may not appreciate this but do yourself a favor and listen up. Your actions belie the truth. Be what you want. But know how you sound.
You go ahead and talk tough and describe yourself as “delighted”.
Say how robust you and your little glass tablet are.
When you’re talkin’ fella we’re all thinkin that neither one of you would function again if you fell over.
