Guidelines to Set Up Your Own Website

August 30, 2018

Setting up your own website is fairly simple. You do not need to be a technical genius to be able to do so. In this article, we will share some guidelines to help you set up your website.

Choosing niche for your website

First of all, you should determine the purpose of your website. Do you have a business and you are planning to set-up online site for it or do you want to start a website that you can monetise? You should then choose a niche or topic. You can pick a specific niche like movies, games, computer, health and fitness, and so on.

Doing your market and keyword research

Next, you should do a market research. You have to study how in-demand the niche you are pursuing and whether or not you will penetrate the market. If the competition is too tough and you see that it is hard to break in, then you can choose less a competitive field. Doing keyword research is also important so you will have an idea of the keywords that you need to target.

Buying domain name

Domain name of your website is very important so people can easily remember your site and so you can rank higher in search engines, meaning your site will appear when people search for it.However, there are already so many websites and choosing a domain name becomes more challenging. What you should do is combine keywords to come up with unique name. Keep it short and simple as much as possible. It is highly discouraged to add numbers in your domain name as it is harder to remember.

Choosing a reliable hosting site

You should also choose a reliable hosting site that will run your website. The hosting site that you will choose must have an easy to navigate control panel so you can launch and maintain the site in just few clicks. They should also have a 24/7 support team that you can contact in case you encounter some issues. Most importantly, the hosting site that you will choose must be fast.

Choosing theme and layout

It is advisable to go for standard layout that is familiar to visitors. This way, they will be able to have an easier time to navigate the site. You can design your own theme and execute preferred layout. However, if you are not the creative type then do not worry because you can use a website builder, which allows you to easily set up your site through drag and drop. There are also ready-made templates that you can use for your site.

Posting related and informative content

Finally, you should make sure to post informative content that are relevant to your niche. You need to come up with fresh content at least once or twice a week. You can use different types of content from articles, infographics, video and others.

Having your own website has many advantages. If you are running a small business, then having a website for your business can widen your reach – you will be able to target more audience and eventually increase your sales. It can also be the other way around; you can make a business out of your site.
