Seven Essential Tech Gadgets That All Truckers Must Have

March 9, 2021

Suppose you have your truck ready and fulfilled all details, such as BOC 3, to initiate your trucking services. However, what about tech gadgets? Do you think you are all geared up with the mandatory tech-gadgets to make your trucking experience more efficient? Have a look at the below given seven tech gadgets that all truckers must have on the road.

GPS

Having a GPS is probably one of the essential tech gadgets that a trucker needs to have in their truck as it makes the navigation process so much easier than having to rely on paper roadmaps. As a trucker, you require an advanced and the updated version of GPS with the addition of specific information, such as fuel costs, the weight limits on bridges, etc. If your GPS includes such transparent information, each of your trucking trips will be filled with confidence and success.

CB Radio

This tech accessory is a powerful one, especially for truckers taking their trucking business professionally seriously. The CB radio (Citizens Band radio) enables the truckers to access more than 30 different radio channels (CB-only). A CB-Radio enables the truckers to transmit their message content over unlimited distances. Therefore, having a CB radio is a must-have tech gadget for you if this is your first time on the road as a truck driver.

ELDs

ELDs (Electronic Logbook Devices) are quite useful when you drive the truck on duty and want to record all movements of your truck. As a truck fleet owner, you would want to ensure that each of your trucks has one of the electronic logbook devices so that the drivers can keep an effective and accurate record of their trucking duty status. You can have the ELD installed anywhere, including your smartphone, tablet, and other devices.

Smartphone

Since we live in the digital era, we cannot underestimate the importance of smartphones. After the electronic logbook device, a smartphone is an essential tech gadget that all truckers need to have at all costs. It doesn’t matter what type of smartphone you as a trucker prefer. It can be an iPhone or an android. A smartphone will come in handy in many situations. You might get into a road accident and need to call your employer, police, and lawyer. You could also use your smartphone to listen to your favorite tracks. Or, you could use the smartphone for navigation. Whatever the situation is, keep your smartphone and a power bank with you at all times.

Telematics

We know that no profession is safe. However, when your profession demands you to constantly hot the roads, you have signed up for thrill and danger. That said, truck driving can be a potentially dangerous profession. Therefore, you need telematics. In other words, with the right kind of gadgets, such as a LED flashlight, backup cameras, etc., you can immensely improve your safety while having a better trucking experience.

Telematics also allows for instant communication between the truckers and their employers/ dispatchers. That said, telematics gadgets are essential to keep truckers interconnected and aware of potential road hazards. Dashcams have become essentials not only for motorists but also for truck drivers. Regardless of whether you are a fleet owner or a truck driver, you can effectively document accidents and driving duration by having a dashcam.

Wi-Fi Booster

As a truck driver, you will often use your phone and other electronic gadgets at truck shops where they have free Wi-Fi. Sometimes, the Wi-Fi can be down or have weak signals that can make it hard for the Wi-Fi signals to reach the cab. That said, by investing in a Wi-Fi booster, you can avoid such incidents and pull the signals close by amplifying them. You can also consider purchasing a Wi-Fi hotspot to remain connected with the internet as well.

Bluetooth

By integrating Bluetooth technology, you can keep your hands free and on the steering wheel, where they are supposed to be while trucking. You can remain connected to the radio, your cellphone, and whatever calls you are taking while driving undeviatingly and safely. A Bluetooth can be effectively connected with the CB radio, which allows the trucker to stay online and connected without taking off their hands from the wheel.
