Bingo Around the World

October 23, 2019

These days Bingo is a game that can be found in pretty much every country in the world, and the great thing is it is also played for differing reasons – not just a simple gambling tool this one! And anyway, when you think about it, is it even that surprising? Out of all the gambling games Bingo has got to be one of the simplest to play, but it also remains one of the most exciting.

All in all it is a great example of gambling entertainment, and its history is also rather interesting as it has very specific chapters that seem to have happened in specific countries. It therefore has quite an interesting story behind it, ones that are worth exploring in relation to Bingo’s position around the world. Read on for a brief summary before you play bingo games.

Italy: The Beginnings of online bingo

An Italian game called Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia is widely recognised as being the foundation for the modern game of Bingo that is played worldwide now, so we have those lovely Italians to thank first and foremost! Created way back in the year 1530 it translates directly as The Clearance Of The Lot Of Italy and looks most like an interesting fusion between a national lottery and Bingo.

It is still played in Italy, and in fact its popularity is so huge that things like online Bingo have only very recently been legalised in the country. So there you have it, Italy is responsible for pizza, pasta, and even Bingo!

Germany: Growth Of A Rational bingo Game

Sometime during the 1800s the Italian game Lo Giuco del Lotto D’Italia found its way across the Alps and into Germany, however it was quickly updated to resemble something far closer to modern Bingo. Oh yes that’s right, the Germans have long been one of the most logical societies in Europe, something exemplified by their modernisation of Bingo.

Furthermore, it was in Germany that the game first began being used for educational purposes, with schools playing Bingo in order to teach their students basic mathematical principles. Indeed, this is something that continues in the present day all around the world!

USA: Birth Of Properly Commercialised Bingo

Bingo reached North America in the early 20th Century by most reports, originally being called “Beano” and having a solid presence at carnivals and fare grounds. It didn’t take long for somebody to cotton onto its huge commercial appeal, and so it was that a man called Edwin S. Lowe devised a version of the game that would go on to earn him a fortune.

He changed the name to Bingo and enlisted the help of a mathematics professor to create an abundance of scorecards, in the process devising a game that would sweep the world.

Japan: Bingo In The Modern World

Bingo is everywhere in the modern world, especially when you consider the crazy extent of the online sector’s expansion. There are more online Bingo players in Japan than anywhere else in the world other than the US, for instance, extraordinary!
