Sports fans have had to wait a long time since the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The previously postponed Tokyo Games are still set to go ahead this summer, leaving Olympics enthusiasts scrambling to plan where to watch their favourite events.
If you are an Olympics fan, here is our guide to where and how to watch the 2021 Games.
Decide which events you want to see
First, you will want to decide which events you would like to watch. Knowing this will help you in scheduling your viewing of certain events – some of which will take place before the opening ceremony on July 23.
The official schedule of the Tokyo Olympics can help. When planning your viewing schedule at home in the UK, it is important to remember that Japan Standard Time is eight hours ahead of British Summer Time.
Subscribe to the right television channels
Not all television networks will have access to all the events at the Olympics. When working out how to watch your favourite events, make sure you know which channel or platform they are showing on.
You might need to assess your finances before taking out a new subscription for a paid channel to watch events.
Book a table ahead of time
If you are planning to watch Olympics events at a sports bar or pub, make sure you book your table well in advance. It is also worth checking the current Covid-19 restrictions if you are planning on watching with a large group.
Taking in the action at a pub or bar is a good idea if you do not want a new TV subscription.
Throw an Olympics party
For those of you with friends who are also Olympics fans – or just like a reason to throw a party – consider hosting a themed get together.
Invest in a projector, get some great snacks in, and even host your own Olympic “events” during the party. You could hold sporting contests or keep it easy and fun with some party games that keep your guests entertained.
Attend an Olympics party
Possibly the easiest way to watch the Tokyo Games is to get yourself invited to an Olympic party hosted by friends or family. That way, you will not have to worry about hosting a large group.
Most of all, just enjoy the games and ceremonies, wherever and however you decide to watch them.
