Technology to Improve Your Home

February 8, 2020

As our lives become further integrated with technology, it only makes sense that we see more and more technology in and around the home. Home technology is better known as the ‘smart home’.

Essentially, a smart home consists of a number of interconnected devices that help you save money, save time, and generally make your life easier. Make sure you choose the best electricity rates in your state when you add all these new appliances.

In this article, we will explore a couple of innovative technologies that will can improve your home by helping you save time, money and enjoyment.

Moving into your home

Improving your home through technology starts by using it before you even move home. Services such as SlothMove or Updater have entirely transformed the home moving process. They have achieved this in the UK and US (respectively) by automating the entire process. For instance, with SlothMove you can update your address across all of your accounts and even complete a council tax change of address.

Automating the address change process can save you up to 7 hours and 21 phone calls. This all stems from what is now being referred to as the ‘relocation technology’ market. So, the next time you’re moving home make sure that you use the technology available.

AI Powering Your Home

The home technology industry is massive. In fact, within the next 10 years the projected worldwide revenue is estimated to be in excess of 520 Billion USD. You will have almost certainly heard of Alexa, or the Amazon Echo. It is estimated that AI-powered sensors in your smart devices will not only be able to respond to your voice or gesture commands but actually process image and video recordings. These will be in almost every home within the next 10 years.

As you might know, with devices such as the Amazon echo/dot you can have multiple throughout your household and connect them all together.

The Use of Smart Locks

One exciting are in home technology is at your front door… literally. We’re in the process of replacing the need for physical keys as the technology is becoming increasingly superior. This will cover everything from your driveway, your front door and even your garage. The market-leading smart locks are currently around £400 or $500USD.

Produce Your Own Energy

With the growth in technology, it has become much easier to save on energy through smart lights and appliances. It has also become affordable to produce your own energy through solar panels on your home. Sunly.ca has a ton of helpful information regarding solar power and how it can help you save money and power your house.

Going Forward

The pace of technology is increasing year on year. And that’s great for us as consumers. As we know, the price of new technologies is always highest when it hits the market. If you’re looking to stay ahead in a cost-efficient way, most devices seem to be much more affordable following two years of the initial release.
