Accessing a fast broadband connection can help you take your firm to the next level. But the question is, how do you connect to reliable and fast broadband in Australia? The answer: NBN.
The NBN is the newest and fastest model of broadband. It’s not currently available in all areas, but soon every home owner in Australia will have access to the high-speed internet connection. If you’re an Australian business owner, you might wonder how you can connect. Here’s a guide to help.
Check if you’re ready to switch
As we mentioned, NBN isn’t available in all areas. Check on the NBN Co website, under ‘business portal’. Here you can use the ‘check your address’ tool to determine if your business can connect. This tool will also show you the technologies available to set up the connection. In fixed-line areas, the following technologies should be available:
- Fibre-to-the-node (FTTN)
- Fibre-to-the-building (FTTB)
- Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP)
- Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)
You might have a satellite connection or fixed wireless connection if you’re in a remote or regional area. If service is available, you can move to the next step. If service isn’t available, you can register your email address for the latest updates as to when it will become available.
Make the decision to switch
Review all the information on the NBN Co’s business portal. Complete the Business Checklist found on the website, as it’ll help you identify the systems, services, and technology that apply to your particular business and the actions you need to take to connect to the NBN.
There are different NBN plans available. So make sure you research into the service provider considering the following things:
- How much speed do you need?
- How much data do you need?
- Do you have any special needs?
- Can the equipment supplied by the NBN Co be installed at your business premises?
- Do you need additional wiring? If you do, how much extra will you be required to pay for it?
You can compare different NBN providers on iSelect to choose the best one.
Prior to entering a contract with a provider, request the Critical Information Summary. This document provides information on the services, plans, and products of the NBN provider allowing you to compare what the provider is offering.
Get a Connection from Your Preferred Provider
The last step is to contact your preferred service provider to discuss all your requirements and request the plan that best suits your needs. Make sure that you understand the contract’s terms and conditions and ask any questions before signing the contract.
By taking the steps mentioned above, you can get your business connected to the NBN and enjoy a high-speed, reliable connection.
